Green Tara Retreat
with Tulku Ösel Dorje

May 26-28, 2023

1084 Tower Road

Halifax, Nova Scotia/Mi'kma'ki

Please join us for a weekend immersion in the profound teachings and practice of Green Tara, the female buddha of compassion. Green Tara swiftly provides protection from fear and suffering. She sits with one foot in the meditative posture and one foot in the world.

We will connect with the luminous compassion of Green Tara and our own innate, awakened heart through deity visualization, mantra recitation, mudras, musical offering and feast offering.

This retreat is open to everyone, new and seasoned students alike. It is being hosted by Wisdom Flame, a local group of practitioners, in collaboration with Tara Mandala. After the retreat, we will also host periodic group practice sessions for anyone who would like to join.

Meet the teacher

Tulku Ösel Dorje was born in Rome, Italy, in 1980 to an Italian filmmaker, Costanzo Allione, and Lama Tsultrim Allione. He was exposed to the Dharma from birth and throughout his childhood, and in his early 20s he met his root guru and became a serious practitioner. Tulku Ösel has completed four years of solitary retreat and also holds a masters degree in Buddhist Studies from Kathmandu University. In 2003 he was recognized by A.dzom Rinpoche as the reincarnation of the great 8th-century yogi Yudra Nyingpo. This was kept secret until 2019, when he was formally enthroned by A.dzom Rinpoche. He is currently resident Lama at Tara Mandala, as well as being a member of the Board of Trustees and Prajna Council. He lives at Tara Mandala with his wife Cady and two sons, and teaches nationally and internationally.

Where does this practice come from?

This concise Green Tara practice has been handed down through generations of Tibetan Buddhist masters and practitioners. It comes from the Ösel Dorje Sangdzod (The Treasury of Secret Vajra Luminosity), a terma cycle revealed by Adzom Drukpa Drodul Pawo Dorje (1842-1924) which has been was transmitted in an unbroken dharma lineage from Adzom Rinpoche to Lama Tsultrim Allione and Tulku Ösel Dorje.

We asked Tulku Ösel to say more about what the practice means to him.
